 Description and Syllabus

Exercises for the mid-term (Feb 23): 

  • Exercises 1.4, 1.5 (more difficult, above the level of the mid-term but good practice), 1.6 question 3 (somewhat technical).   Pages of the exercises
  • Exercises 4.4 (no easy), 4.6 (doable), 4.7 question 1. All these are in the Chapter 4 that was handed out in class

There will be answers for all the exercises.

Reminder: Review session, Wednesday 5pm (classroom not set yet).


 All the assignments should be written (either by hand or typed) on standard size sheets with your name on the first sheet.

  • Assignment 1 (due in class, January 31): Exercises 1.1, 1.2, 2.2.
  • Assignment 2
  • Assignment 3 (due 2/16): Exercises 3.1, 3.2 (questions 1 and 2, 3&4 are optional)
  • Assignment 4: read and comment (2 pages) the paper on polarization. Due April 13 in class. (Better good work on part of the paper than superficial on the whole paper).
